Free CRAFT Workshop
Learn CRAFT Communication Tools

Hosted by Heather Ross

Studies show that 70% of people who use CRAFT are likely to get their loved ones to seek treatment within a year.

CRAFT also helps family members improve their own lives whether their loved one seeks treatment or not.

What is CRAFT?

It's an acronym for Community Reinforcement And Family Training - a scientifically supported, evidence-based, clinically proven approach to helping families of substance users. CRAFT originated at the University of New Mexico and was developed by Robert Meyers, Ph.D., and coleagues. Research and clinical trials have given evidence that with the right tools, families can effect change.

CRAFT has 3 goals:

1. Teach you skills to take care of yourself
2. Teach you skills to help your loved one change
3. To reduce substance use

The workshop is built around communication tools that provide a systematic approach for applying positive communication to your relationship.

Why aren't more parents trying CRAFT if it works?

There's so much stigma, misunderstanding, and misinformation about substance use disorder that it's going to take time to make changes in the way our society approaches it. Also, parents are already frustrated and exhausted. The thought of trying one more thing is overwhelming.

It's easier to learn new concepts and make changes in a warm, supportive, and understanding environment. That's why Heather is doing this workshop. She wants to make trying something new as easy as possible for you.

Who is Heather Ross and why is she hosting this workshop?

Heather Ross is the mother of a child who struggled with addiction, a parent support coach, and host of the Living With Your Child's Addiction podcast.

Heather tried all the recommended approaches even though they didn't feel right to her. She tried tough love, waiting for her daughter to hit rock bottom, and other traditional approaches that are based on stigma rather than science and don't work. Those approaches caused chaos in her home, intense stress, and destroyed her relationship with her daughter. Feeling desperate and defeated, Heather stopped everything that wasn’t working and tried something completely different.

The new approaches that she learned from coaching and CRAFT brought unconditional love, stability, and influence to her relationship with her daughter. Heather educated herself about addiction, started focusing on self-care, learned how to make boundaries and allow natural consequences, and started using positive communication skills.

The changes she made not only repaired but strengthened her relationship with her daughter. It also led to her daughter Helanna seeking treatment and starting her own recovery journey. The recovery path is not a straight line though. Tragically, In December of 2021 Helanna lapsed and was given a deadly dose of fentanyl.

After the devastating loss of her daughter, Heather called on her tools and resilience to lean into helping more parents. She's grateful that she did the work on herself to learn how to support her daughter and create a beautiful loving relationship.

Heather has a program for parents that is unique, sustainable, and works during recovery or active substance use. She believes that parents have more power than they realize, but they need to help themselves and learn new tools in order to help their children.
