Meet Your Coach Heather Ross

Heather Ross is the founder of Heather Ross Coaching, specializing in family-centered strategies for parents navigating their child’s substance use disorder. As a mother who has experienced her own daughter’s struggle with substances, her mission is to educate about stigma and equip parents with evidence-based tools to maintain their own health while creating the best possible conditions for their child’s recovery.

Heather is certified in the Invitation to Change (ITC) approach, a comprehensive framework encompassing three evidence-based practices: Motivational Interviewing, Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

As the creator and host of the Living with Your Child’s Addiction podcast, Heather offers parents insights into navigating the complexities of substance use disorder within the family dynamic while helping parents create their own peace of mind whether their child is in active substance use or recovery. She believes parents have more power than they realize and the best gift they can give their child is a healthy parent.

When Heather is not helping other parents, she enjoys spending time in nature with her dogs, going to sound baths, traveling, and creating lasting memories with family and friends.

Meet Your Coach Beth Syverson

Beth Syverson is an adoptive mom of a 19yo son Joe, who she adopted from Japan as an infant. She didn’t understand adoption trauma until after her son was in crisis at age 15, when she found out he struggled with addiction and suicidality.

Then they both did a deep dive into adoption therapy, reading about adoption and addiction, and engaging with the adoption and addiction communities. In August 2021, Joe had the idea to create Safe Home Podcast to share what they’d learned as a family, with the hopes that it would help other families with teens struggling with addiction and mental health issues, including adoption trauma. Now renamed Unraveling Adoption, the podcast aims to provide an intentional space to delve into adoption’s complexities. They hope the podcast reaches adoptive parents plus people in the community who aren’t touched by adoption directly themselves.

In August 2023, Beth became a Certified Coach through the Virginia Satir Global Network’s Coaching and Mentorship Program. She primarily coaches adoptive parents, both individually and in groups, and she also supports adoptive parents with a free support group called APtitude.
